In merry making activities, marriage is the prime function and no other merrier occasions make anyone so happy and contended than his own marriage. The function marriage is believed to have been a resultant instance of merry. But to a married couple merrier is the family unity which often guarantees the prolongation of their happiest moments without and otherwise the same unity is threatened by some alien factors in the shape of in-laws and dowry demands. The marriage is essential for everyone to have a legal and social bond for the unity of a man and woman. Only through a legalized bond of marriage a couple can produce offspring who long and sustained developmental stages till their maturity are so taken care of. In the absence of such a legally enforced and accepted nuptial knot the responsibility of producing and returning children becomes a mockery and more than often such children undergo a hell of a problem during their lifetime. Here, marriage apart from being merely a merry making activity, in the widest perspective becomes a social and moral responsibility of everyone to produce, nurture and acquire an excellent progeny in the fold of their family. Realizing these facts, from the time immemorial, the mankind has enacted many rules and regulations for this Wedding to take place. This fact of Matrimony could have been ascertained from the various civilizations such as Arabian, Aryan, Egyptian, and Indus Valley Civilizations.
All religions proclaim that the marriages are destined for everyone in the heaven itself because it is the responsibility of us to search and find a suitable match according to our family, community, status and financial stability. Matrimony acts as a garment for every man and women since it protects the integrity of them and they abstain from any illegal and shameful demoralizing acts thus keeping the society out of any indecency. As the garments give beauty and protect the body from various external forces, so does the matrimonial reality to a couple, adding happiness, prestige, responsibility and status in the society. Having these things accomplished, the man becomes a vicegerent of God on this earth. Those who oppose this idea of matrimony and go ahead with their wishful thinking could be seen demoralized, leading a shameful and dissatisfied life, polluting the society with different kinds of their crimes, spreading disgusted diseases.
Various cultures of this world have different practices relating to Matrimonial and wedding functions. Right from marriage in the childhood to curtailing the marriage by a widow, societies have realized and acknowledge the wrongs done to their own people. The practices of marrying sisters, wife of deceased brothers are largely given up by several cultures. Also detested and dejected are the practices of polyandry and polygamy, while the former is a hazardous and evil practice paving way for the development of demoralized progeny, and the latter is simply an economically weakening haphazard activity, inviting chaos at the family level. Even Islam restricts polygamy to the maximum level of having only four legally married wives, if circumstances demand, on the condition that all of them are treated equally. Marriage on the principles of monogamy is widely accepted, recognized and practiced social function throughout the world.
So marriage or wedding is a part of every one's life and an essential event in order to sustain a sweeter life with ease and comfort. This matrimonial practice is the driving force behind the best and decent living of mankind.
